Kaprizov Owns the Night, and the Hobby Needs Trust

From the collector's desk

Trust is part of what makes this hobby enjoyable.

Some mornings, the best reason to collect is sitting right there in the box score. Friday gave us a superstar involved in every goal his team scored, a late winner in Calgary, and college football refusing to let anybody go to bed comfortably. That's a better starting point than wondering which name everybody will chase next.

Kaprizov makes the whole night his

Kirill Kaprizov had a goal and three assists as Minnesota beat San Jose 4–1. His goal was his league-leading 16th, according to ESPN's recap carried in its scoreboard feed. Four team goals, four Kaprizov points: you don't need to dress that up. Macklin Celebrini scored San Jose's lone goal.

For me, nights like that explain the appeal of following a player over time. A collection can become a record of the seasons you actually paid attention to, not a stack of predictions about somebody else's next purchase.

Anaheim supplied the late drama. Cutter Gauthier scored with 1:34 remaining to break a tie against Calgary, extending his goal streak to five games. The Ducks finished with a 5–3 win, their fourth straight. Buffalo also beat Columbus 5–2, with Josh Norris scoring twice and Owen Power adding three assists.

Don't switch off the late game

Arizona edged TCU 29–28 in a Friday-night game that finished early Saturday. ESPN reports that the Wildcats recovered an onside pooch kick before Michael Salgado-Medina made a 37-yard field goal with 39 seconds left. That's the kind of ending that makes a sleepy final-score check turn into a search for the highlights.

East Carolina had its own kicker's moment: Andrew Conrad hit from 55 yards with two seconds left to beat South Florida 20–17. Meanwhile, Kevin Jennings threw for 350 yards and four touchdowns in SMU's 51–28 win over Virginia Tech. Three of those touchdown passes went to Yamir Knight.

One Thursday carryover deserves its proper date: Jacksonville beat Baltimore 33–10 on November 5. Trevor Lawrence threw for 242 yards and a touchdown. It wasn't a Friday result, and there's no need to pretend it was.

The hobby story worth slowing down for

Sports Card Investor's November 5 episode focused on allegations involving counterfeit PSA slabs, particularly high-end Pokémon. Its discussion included collectors questioning labels and certification details. Importantly, the hosts explicitly said many of the reports had not been officially confirmed by PSA or the marketplaces involved.

That distinction matters. These are reported allegations, not established findings against every seller or platform mentioned. A dramatic episode title isn't a substitute for a completed investigation, and I'm not going to turn it into one here.

My takeaway is less dramatic and more useful: the holder shouldn't end your curiosity about the card. Check the certification directly, compare available images, ask about provenance, and pause when something doesn't line up. None of those steps alone guarantees authenticity.

Collectors need room to ask ordinary questions without being rushed or embarrassed. Trust is part of what makes this hobby enjoyable. Protecting it matters more than being first to repeat a scary story—or first to declare the next big thing.
